Call Before You Dig with Diggers Hotline!
Planning an outdoor project? Whether you're planting a tree, installing a fence, or breaking ground on a new project, it’s essential to know what’s below. At 24-7 & West Wisconsin Telcom, we’re committed to your safety and the integrity of our utilities. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Diggers Hotline to ensure you dig safely and responsibly.
Why Call Before You Dig?
Underground utility lines carry essential services like electricity, gas, water, and fiber-optic internet. Accidentally hitting these lines can lead to:
- Serious injuries
- Service interruptions
- Expensive repairs
- Legal consequences
By contacting Diggers Hotline, you’ll avoid these risks and help keep your community safe.
How Does It Work?
- NOTIFY: At least 3 full business days before you dig, contact Diggers Hotline by dialing 811 from any phone in Wisconsin or by visiting diggershotline.com.
- WAIT: Wait 3 business days for affected utility operators to respond. On average, 7-8 utility operators are notified for each request. 24-7 & West Wisconsin Telcom will be notified to mark fiber lines.
- CONFIRM: Ensure all affected utility operators have responded by comparing the marks to the list of notified utilities.
- RESPECT: Respect the marks. They serve as a guide throughout your project. If the marks fade, contact Diggers Hotline for a re-mark.
- DIG CAREFULLY: If you must dig within 18 inches of the marks, only hand digging is allowed—no mechanized equipment.
When to Call
- Installing mailboxes, decks, or patios - Planting trees, shrubs, or gardens - Building fences or retaining walls - Any excavation, large or small
