October is National Cooperative Month

October is National Cooperative Month and to celebrate, seven local “co-ops” are joining forces to provide a free community breakfast on Saturday, October 27th at Dunn Energy Cooperative in Menomonie. This cooperative breakfast has been an annual event for more than 20 years.

Royal Credit Union, Dunn Energy, Countryside Cooperative, Synergy, WESTconsin Credit Union, Menomonie Food Coop and West Wisconsin Telcom are all working together to sponsor this free event. Together these 7 local cooperatives serve 26 counties in Wisconsin.

The concept of working together to serve their communities is one of the seven principles guiding all cooperatives. These seven principles are shared by cooperatives located throughout the United States.

  1. Voluntary and Open Membership
  2. Democratic Member Control
  3. Member Economic Participation
  4. Autonomy and Independence
  5. Education, Training and Information
  6. Cooperation among Cooperatives
  7. Concern for Community
